How we handle your data
Selling a phone means handing a stranger the device your whole life goes through. Here is exactly what happens to it.
- 1
Before you post it
Sign out of iCloud or your Google account and turn off Find My. This is the one step only you can do - a device still tied to your account can't be processed and has to be sent back.
- 2
When it arrives
It's checked in against your order and stored in a locked area. Nobody browses a device to value it: the inspection is a condition check against the answers you gave, not a look through your files.
- 3
The wipe
Every device is erased before it goes anywhere - a factory reset plus a full storage erase, so deleted data can't be recovered. Modern phones and laptops use encrypted storage, so this also destroys the key.
- 4
The certificate
The wipe is recorded against your order with the method, the operator and the date. Ask and we'll send you that record.
- 5
If we send it back
A device we return - a declined re-quote, or one still locked to an account - is wiped first unless the lock prevented us reaching it.
What we keep about you
Your name, address, contact details and payout details, because we can't buy a device or pay you without them. We keep the record of the transaction for as long as tax and second-hand goods rules require, and no longer. We don't sell your details to anyone. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
Something you'd rather we deleted
Email hello@techdosh.co.uk and say so. You have the right to ask for a copy of what we hold and to have it erased where we're not required to keep it.
